Local churches honor veterans, community leaders during special Memorial Day weekend service

Two churches, one in Holland and another in Hamilton, are spending Memorial Day weekend honoring veterans and community leaders with special church services.

HOLLAND, Mich. - In honor of Memorial Day, Calvary Baptist Church hosted a special Sunday service.

Both veterans and those involved with civil service were honored at a 10:30 a.m. worship service. There were a number of community leaders in attendance, including:

  • Mayor of Holland Nancy DeBoer
  • Holland City Manager Keith VanBeek
  • Ottawa County Commissioner Allen Dannenberg
  • Ottawa County Treasurer Bradley Slagh
  • Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck
  • Holland Charter Township Trustee Russell TeSlaa
  • Mr. Brandon Sinclair with the Attorney General's Office

In Hamilton, The Church @ Hamilton held a similar service at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Organizers planned to have appearances by:

  • State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker
  • State House Rep. Mary Whiteford
  • Allegan County Clerk Robert Genetski
  • Allegan County Judge Michael Buck

The annual tradition allows members of both congregations to hear from local civil servants, in addition to honoring veterans over the weekend.
