Grandville teen who threatened to 'blow up' school gets probation

A Grandville High School teen who said she was going to “blow Grandville up’’ because she was being bullied was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months on probation.

A Grandville High School teen who said she was going to “blow Grandville up’’ because she was being bullied was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months on probation.

Kyleigh Breanne Miles, 17, appeared for sentencing in Kent County Circuit Court on a charge of making a false report or threat of terrorism. She pleaded guilty to the charge in June.

Judge Paul Sullivan sentenced her under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which means her record will be wiped clean if Miles completes probation without major missteps. She was facing up to 20 years in prison.

Grandville school administrators on April 28 contacted police after receiving word a threat was made against the high school via social media. A search of the school, 4700 Canal Ave. SW, did not turn up any sort of explosives.

“I’m mad. I’m gonna blow Grandville up,’’ the message read.

In an interview with police, Miles “stated that she was referring to Grandville High School,’’ Sgt. Renee Veldman wrote in a probable cause affidavit. “She stated she did this because she was being bullied and felt like no one was doing anything about it.

“She further stated she hates that school,’’ Veldman wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

Miles, who lives in Walker, also admitted to making an April 19 post that read, “Someone blow Grandville school up please n thank you,’’ court records show.
