Officials with the university confirmed the investigation Sunday morning.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Police are investigating an attempted rape incident near Grand Valley State University's downtown Grand Rapids campus.

The incident happened just before 9 a.m. on May 22, on Prospect Avenue just north of Trowbridge Street.

The suspect is described as a tall, black man with a medium build, possibly in his 20s or 30s. He was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.

Officials with GVSU say the victim was not a student or an employee of the university. They have warned the campus community of the incident since it happened just north of the health campus.
