‘He knew his plan’: Investigators in three counties search for robber

Investigators have received several tips, but have yet to identify a suspect in the robberies.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – As authorities in Holland released surveillance footage Friday of an armed man robbing a Check ‘n Go, police believe that same suspect was robbing a Cash Store in Georgetown Township.

The suspect in these cases didn’t appear overly aggressive, said Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The agency is investigating Friday’s incident.

“There is no real intent on causing harm at least…to this stage,” Bennett said. “He appeared to be very directed, almost that he knew his plan, carried out his plan with very little fanfare.”

Investigators believe the suspect is linked to recent robberies at two other businesses. The first occurred at a Cash ‘n Go in Kentwood on Nov. 6, and the second happened at a Cash Store on Nov. 28 in Muskegon County’s Roosevelt Park.

Agencies from each county have shared details about the robberies and plan to meet soon, Bennett said.

“Now the trick is to really try to get commonalities together to lead us to a suspect,” he said.

The suspect in the surveillance video was wearing a University of Michigan hoodie, black ski mask and dark sunglasses. He is described as a white man in his mid-to-late 30s who is between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8.

Kentwood Police said the suspect escaped in a dark-colored sedan. Deputies in Ottawa County said the suspect left the Cash Store Friday in an old, light-colored SUV.

Although the suspect has been organized, he may get more comfortable and let his guard down, leading to a mistake, Bennett said.

“These types of circumstances, [the suspect] usually moves forward until they’re stopped, until they’re apprehended,” he said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has contacted other local cash stores to provide extra patrols and assistance while the suspect is still at-large.

Anyone with information about the Jenison incident should call the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office or Silent Observer.
