HOWARD CITY, Mich. — A 29-year-old Howard City man is facing multiple charges related to a domestic assault incident over the weekend.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office, it happened on Saturday around 11:50 a.m. on Joy Street in Howard City.

A deputy was sent to the home on Joy Street after a 25-year-old woman called dispatch. The woman told authorities her boyfriend, a 29-year-old Howard City man, physically assaulted her and threatened her with a weapon.

Investigators say the suspect left before the deputy could arrive. Deputies and other local law enforcement searched multiple places he may have fled to. The sheriff's office says he was eventually arrested in Ionia.

The suspect is currently being held at the Montcalm County Jail on the follow charges: assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
