Jeffrey Willis to get separate trials in Heeringa, kidnapping cases

Willis is currently serving a life sentence in the death of jogger Rebekah Bletsch in 2014.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - There will be two separate trials for convicted killer Jeffrey Willis.

A judge on Monday, April 23, decided the trial in the kidnapping and murder of Jessica Heeringa will happen first. That is scheduled to begin May 2.

That will be followed by the trial in the attempted kidnapping of a teenager in 2016.

The prosecution wanted the cases combined, so both could be decided in one trial. The defense said the trials should be separate because of a number of complex evidence issues.
