A man convicted of severely beating and sexually assaulting his one-month-old son in 1997 will remain in prison.

Damon Jackson was 17 at the time of the crime. The assault left the child blind and deaf in one ear. He died two years later.

Jackson was being considered for a reduce sentence after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled sentencing juveniles to mandatory life in prison was unconstitutional.

Because of the nature of the crime, prosecutors recommended Jackson serve his full term. On Monday, Dec. 10, Kent County judge Donald A. Johnston granted that request.
