Charges have been issued against Lowell Police Chief Steven Bukala.
Bukala is charged with five counts of unauthorized use of LEIN, which is the Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network. According to Michigan State Police, LEIN is a computerized information system used by police departments statewide.
The charges are a misdemeanor and he could face time in prison if convicted. Bukala turned himself in to authorities Wednesday, June 14.
Bukala was previously under investigation for possible misconduct. According to the Barry County prosecuting office, Bukala will be arraigned at a later date.
Bukala went on paid administrative leave from the city back in April.
