The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development have discovered and removed 70 credit card skimmers within the last year, across the state.

The department found the first skimmer at a gas pump in the Grand Rapids area. These skimmers cannot be seen from outside the pump and are installed in seconds using a key to unlock the pump. Criminals are then able to skim consumer's card information and make fraudulent purchases.

“Some steps station owners can take, and have taken, to protect their patrons from cyber-criminals are changing locks, using tamper-proof security tape, and security cameras," said MDARD director Jamie Clover Adams. "MDARD is also encouraging station owners to increase their regular dispenser inspections."

MDARD created this video to display how they investigate for these skimmers.
