HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery in Holland Township. The robbery at the CVS Pharmacy on Douglas Avenue happened just before 5:19 a.m. Thursday, July 12.

The CVS clerk called in the crime, saying the store had been robbed at gun point and that she was injured.

The preliminary investigation revealed two suspects armed with handguns entered the store and demanded narcotics. The clerk was assaulted and restrained by the suspects. The clerk suffered a head injury that police say is not life threatening.

Authorities say the two suspects left in a getaway car and made off with an unknown amount of prescription drugs. Judging by the operation, Ottawa County Captain Mark Bennett believes this may not be their first time.

"It appeared to be a very planned out attack and in the restraining of the employees so we think there was some thought process into that," Bennett told 13 ON YOUR SIDE.

"So this makes me believe this is probably part of a larger operation."

Pharmacies across the country have experienced similar robberies with thieves making out with prescription drugs, as we are in the midst of an opioid epidemic.

"There's a real unfortunate desire of many of the public for those prescription narcotics," Bennett said.

Bennett tells 13 ON YOUR SIDE part of that robbery was caught on a surveillance camera but they are not releasing it at this time, they may release it at a later date.

Authorities say since they released the photos of the suspects, early on Thursday, they have already received a number of Silent Observer tips.
