NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. - The trial started on Tuesday, July 16 for Anthony Blamer, the man who is accused of shooting, killing and robbing D'Anthony Keenan then dismembering him.
In August 2017, investigators say that Blamer and Keenan got into an argument about money and Keenan was shot in the head. Blamer told investigators that he drove the victim's SUV to a park and ride in Muskegon County, where he later returned and cut off Keenan's head and hands.
Keenan's body parts were found in both Newaygo and Oceana Counties. Blamer and Keenan originally met as cellmates in Muskegon County Jail.
Evidence in the case was located at more than a dozens sites between Muskegon, Fremont, and Newaygo.
Keenan's body missing his hands and head was discovered by duck hunter driving on a remote trail in the Manistee National Forest.
The prosecution's first witness was Sherrie Moore, mother of D'Anthony Keenan. Moore testified her son had more than $1,000 with him the day he went to meet Blamer at a Muskegon car wash. That money she said was for her son to pay a number of her bills.
But the bills were never paid. And D'Anthony didn't come home that night in August 2017.
"That night I couldn't sleep, so I called and made a report," said Moore.
Police matched that missing person report to the discovery of the body in Newaygo County the next day.
Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson said in opening statements that Blamer and Keenan communicated on Facebook and agreed to meet at the car wash.
The exact reason is unclear, "Some kind of transaction between the defendant and the victim," Hilson said.
A security camera on a gas station in the area shows Keenan arriving in his white Tahoe, and Blamer arrives on foot carrying a backpack.
Both then go out of the camera's vision.
Hilson described Blamer as living paycheck to paycheck and being nearly $10,000 behind in child support payments.
But the day Keenan was last heard from, store cameras show Blamer purchasing a shovel, cleaning products, chainsaw and clothing with cash at stores near where Keenan's vehicle was located.
Hilson says Blamer told police four different version of what happened, including one story claiming to have been forced to make the suspicious purchases by two strangers who were driving a Buick.
Blamer also didn't want a jury to hear the case, so the Muskegon County Circuit Judge will decide the four felony charges against him.
Additional witness are expected to testify begriming Wednesday morning.
