East Grand Rapids to eliminate gender-designated caps and gowns for graduation

In 2019, students will all wear navy with gold tassels and stoles.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - East Grand Rapids High School graduates will look different than years past - while all looking the same - walking across the stage this year.

Senior Council Members have chosen to eliminate gender-designated caps and gowns. In 2019, all students will wear navy gowns with gold tassels and stoles.

In the past, boys wore navy gowns with gold tassels and stoles while the girls wore gold gowns with navy tassels and stoles.

Students hope the change will create an environment of inclusivity for all genders.
