Jenison district celebrates new school opening

The new school will house an early childhood center and Spanish Immersion classes for kindergartners through 6th graders.

JENISON, Mich. - Some students will be going back to a brand new school in Ottawa County.

On Wednesday, Aug. 15, administrators cut the ribbon on the Kids First building, Jenison's first new school since 1970. It will house an early childhood center and Spanish immersion classes for kindergartners through 6th graders.

That program will be called "El Puente" meaning "The Bridge" and is meant to bridge the language barrier between Spanish in English.

The planning for the new school started four years ago and the architectural design started right after the bond issue was approved in 2016.

Students will return to school on Aug. 28.
