Father convicted in child's bathtub drowning

Adalynn Smutz was left unattended with an older sibling in a bathtub when she drowned.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - A Muskegon man has been convicted of manslaughter in the death of his 14-month-old daughter who drowned while unattended in a bathtub.

After deliberating for one hour on Wednesday, Sept. 19, a jury found Justin Smutz guilty of not only the manslaughter charge, but also second degree child abuse.

Adalynn Smutz was left unattended with an older sibling in a bathtub when she drowned. It happened in March of 2016 at a home in the City of Muskegon.

Smutz is jailed pending a sentencing hearing next month.
