Concerns rise in Ann Arbor regarding COVID variant

Sports at U-M have been put on pause and all students have been told to stay at home.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Families in West Michigan are being affected by the new COVID variant on the east side of the state.

Many of those concerns are focused in the Ann Arbor area. Sports at U-M have been put on pause and all students have been told to stay at home.

Monique Saucier, a Muskegon woman, says she is worried about her sister who is being treated for a non-covid illness at a hospital in Ann Arbor.

"It's very scary because I look at Ann Arbor, Michigan and University of Michigan as a place that can help those who really need the help medically...and it's scary and very nervous," says Saucier.

Monique says when her sister got out of surgery on Wednesday she was immediately given a COVID test.

"They are running tests on her to make sure she is not positive for the disease," says Saucier.

Now Monique wants people to remain careful about the pandemic.

"I have social media and I see a lot of people are still partying and gathering but this is not a joke.....it's not a joke at all," says Saucier.
