Celebrate American Stroke Month by learning the signs

Spectrum Health Butterworth is the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the Grand Rapids area and treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in Michigan.

May is American Stroke Month, and it's a great time to talk about stroke awareness and prevention.

Dr. Tamer Abdelhak, division chief for inpatient neurology at Spectrum Health’s Butterworth Hospital, stopped by to talk about Spectrum Health’s stroke program and its designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Spectrum Health Butterworth is the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the Grand Rapids area and treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in Michigan. Spectrum Health Butterworth is one of only about 120 Comprehensive Stroke Centers throughout the United States and received this certification after a vigorous review last year. The practice’s staff treats patients who have experienced the most serious and complex strokes.

If you witness someone having a stroke, please call 911 and ask to be taken to Spectrum Health or the nearest Comprehensive Stroke Center.
