Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes: Taking a look inside the Voigt House

The Annual Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes is on, so we decided to give you a special glimpse inside one of the historical homes.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - If you're amazed by the outside of homes in Heritage Hill, this weekend is the perfect time to check out the inside.

The annual Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes is happening May 19 and 20th -- giving members of the community a chance to see the inside of homes owned by prominent early Grand Rapids business and political leaders.

Heritage Hill is one of the largest historic districts in the country. Many of the homes part of the tour date back to as early as 1843 and represent Michigan's finest collection of 19th and 20th century American architecture ranging from Queen Anne to Greek Revival, from Prairie to Gregorian.

This weekend, restored private homes and two public buildings are open for tours as the neighborhood celebrates 50 years of working in building a healthy, vital and thriving historic district.

13 ON YOUR SIDE's Meredith Terhaar got a chance to see the inside of the Voigt House located at 115 College St. SE.

The Voigt House, built for Carl G. A. Voigt, in 1895. Voigt ran a mill and dry goods store. The home is virtually a time-capsule of the Victorian Era -- with furniture, artwork, clothes and even the toothbrushes of the Voigt family.

Tickets are $25.00. Free shuttle bus transportation for the tour is provided between all of the tour houses. For information on how to get a ticket and history on the homes, visit the Heritage Hill Association's website, or call 616-459-8950.
