'I'm probably too dumb to retire,' Ottawa County business owner celebrates 89 years

An Ottawa County family business is celebrating after operating for decades.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. - An Ottawa County family business is celebrating a major milestone, 89 years of operation and counting. Felix's is a marina and gun shop on the Grand River in Robinson Township, and while times have changed, the family running the store has not.

"We claim guns, knives and funny old things, of course that includes us," Felix Pytlinske said.

The business has sat on a lot on Green Street along the Grand River for 89 years, welcoming people like Patrick Gentry for decades.

"I was probably about 13 years old and my brother would take me fishing here because it was probably the only few places that you could rent a boat and fish all day," Gentry told 13 On Your Side.

"It was like $10, and I think it's $10 still," he said with a chuckle.

These are stories Felix has heard before and isn't too surprised. He knows how old he is (87) and he knows what people are asking

"I'm actually probably too dumb to retire. I wouldn't have anything to do. I'd have to get a job," he gasped.

"What could I do that could be more interesting than what I do now? What's better than being here tomorrow? I can't think of anything," he said with a smile.
