BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety has a few shootings to look into this week.
According to a release from the department, during the overnight hours of Sept. 11 and into Sept. 12, officers responded to multiple reports of shots being fired and people injured by gunfire.
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Bishop Avenue to a report of shots fired at around 11:39 p.m. and found a 28-year-old man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower leg. He was taken to Lakeland Hospital for treatment.
Around 11:45 p.m., BHDPS officers were called to Lakeland ER on a report that a 29-year-old man was there and also suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers determined this victim was shot in the 1000 block of Jennings. Police say this victim is suffering from serious injuries.
While investigating the other two shootings, BHDPS officers heard gunshots around 12:30 a.m. Officers responded to the 600 Block of Empire and found a two men at a home suffering from multiple gunshots. Both were takent to Lakeland Hospital for treatment -- one man is currently in critical condition and the other suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators were able to recover 3 long guns and a hand gun from the shootings -- however, no suspect information is available. Investigators do not know if the three incidents are related.
Detectives from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, Benton Township PD, ST Joe City DPS, ST Joe Township PD, Berrien County Sheriffs Dept., Michigan State Police and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force are actively investigating all three shootings.
