Police close off a scene of a crime.

A Waterford woman is in custody after she killed her husband Friday morning and then called 911 to report it, police said.

Police officers who went to the couple's home on Meadowood Drive found a 45-year-old man dead in the back yard. The man's 51-year-old wife was arrested.

Officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun from the scene.

The couple's young son wasn't injured, police said. His age was not released.

The 911 call came in at 11:42 a.m. The woman said on the call that she had just killed her husband, according to police.

"It's a very fresh, active investigation," Waterford Police Lt. Scott Good said Friday afternoon.

No additional details were released.
