Local supporters make trip to Washington

The Muskegon County GOP organized a group of more than 100 people that also made the trip.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — John Cremer took his family to Washington to support President Trump.

"I've been wanting to go as kind of a sight seeing trip....when President Trump said he wants all Patriots to be there, I thought this is a historic enough day regardless of how the election ends up turning out," says Cremer.

Cremer attended the President's speech but says he and his family left before any violence had started.

"I had no idea that some of the fringe people who weren't like the entire crowd would even be thinking about going into the capitol, that's completely inappropriate," says Cremer.

The Muskegon County GOP organized a group of more than 100 people that also made the trip.  The group is safe and on their way back but on Tuesday night members told us they were standing up for the country.

"We are going to tell our representatives and Vice President and our President we support them, we're there because we believe in them, it's a simple as that and we believe this has been taken from them and that it's been stolen and it's time to take it back, we demand it," says Chuck Ritchard.

Cremer believes the violence on Wednesday will not overshadow his positive experience.

"I think the positive parts of the day will far outweigh any of the negatives that happened after we and a lot of other people left," says Cremer.
