A 24-year-old man was hit by a semi-truck in Battle Creek on Tuesday evening, Dec. 5.

Around 6:30 p.m. Battle Creek Police responded to a report of a man walking away from a car that had gone off the road near Columbia Avenue and Helmer Road.

Witnesses told police that the man was walking on Helmer Road, causing cars to swerve around him. The semi truck driver said he saw the man on the curb, but when the semi approached, the 24-year-old stepped off the curb directly into the path of the semi.

The victim was taken to Bronson Kalamazoo for treatment and is in critical condition.

The semi driver was not injured.
