A plane skidded to a stop while landing at W.K. Kellogg Airport Thursday afternoon after its landing gear failed.

Four passengers were in the Piper Twin Comanche when it landed about 2:40 p.m. from southwest of the airport on runway 5L, according to a news release from the city of Battle Creek.

Its pilot discovered while landing that "landing gear in all three positions failed," the city said.

No one was injured.

The airport was expected to open by 5:30 p.m., the city said. It was expected to take several hours for crews to "determine how to safely remove the aircraft from the runway."

"The community was safe, and the pilot in control during the entire incident," the city said.

Fire and police crews responded to the airport. The city said it has notified the National Transportation Safety Board, which will in turn notify the Federal Aviation Administration.
