Police: Battle Creek man arrested hiding in his brother's house

Clifton Moorer said he didn't realize his brother had run into his house "because I was watching everything going on."

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - A 31-year-old Battle Creek man, Arthur Moorer, was arrested on several charges after Battle Creek police said they attempted to stop his vehicle at at 8:41 p.m. Thursday.

Police said that the mini-van he was driving failed to stop at the intersection of Broad and Wagner streets and then attempted to speed away from officers at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Near the intersection of North Broad and Radley streets the van stopped in a yard and Moorer ran into the house of his brother at 41 Radley St.

The brother, Clifton Moorer, said he heard the sirens and came out to look. "I was standing on the front porch because I heard the sirens and I saw the cars pull around and my brother jumped out ran that way and they (police) all swarmed my house asking me to come out."

Clifton Moorer said he didn't realize his brother had run into his house "because I was watching everything going on."

He and his four children waited outside while police first announced to Arthur Moorer to come out and then said they would send a police dog to find him.

About an hour later Arthur Moorer was found hiding in the attic and once arrested was checked by Lifecare Ambulance paramedics after he fell through the attic ceiling and was bitten by the police dog.

He was arrested and on Friday arraigned on charges of fleeing from police, and two counts of resisting police. He also had several unrelated warrants. His bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to return to court on June 14.
