CROTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A dead body has been found in a vehicle submerged in a Newaygo County river.
The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office says investigators were called to the Muskegon River near the Croton Dam just before 9:30 Thursday morning on a report of a vehicle in the water. Anglers had found the vehicle.
"I was fishing upstream with a client and noticed a disturbance in the river that's not normally there," explains fishing guide Jay Allen. "It happened to be a red Chevy Blazer."
While investigating, the county dive team found the body, described only as that of a white male.
The sheriff's office says the body and the vehicle have been recovered from the river, which took several hours.
Authorities said they've identified the body and will release the name after notifying the family.
" It was sad to think somebody lost their life while we were enjoying a nice day on the river," says Allen. " it was beautiful and the fishing was good but sad to hear someone lost their life."
There were no obvious signs of foul play, authorities said, but the case is under investigation.
