Grand Rapids' community market hosting grand re-opening

Urban Roots is expanding its market to better serve the community.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - There will be one more place for the community to purchase local produce for low prices very soon.

Urban Roots Community Market has joined forces with Spectrum Health Healthier Communities and Amway to remodel the market. The grand re-opening of the new space is happening on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m. There will be formal remarks, a ribbon-cutting and farm fresh snacks.

Urban Roots is a non-profit organization that works to help serve the community through gardening and urban farming. The community farm, market and education center in the southeast part of Grand Rapids is expanding its market to be better able to serve the community. There will be different price points people visiting the market will pay for the produce depending on where they live and their income.

Last week the Calvin College Streetfest crew helped staff turn compost piles, paint walls, weed and mulch the greens in preparation for the reopening.

The market is currently open on Wednesdays from 12 until 7 p.m. After Sept. 6, the market's will be open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 12 until 7 p.m.
