The Grand Rapids Police Department wants to improve relations with the community.

Wednesday night officers participated in a brainstorming session with the people they serve. It happened at the Grand Rapids Public library and more than 100 people attended.

More information on GRPD policies, increased resources for police and more engagement between officers and youth are just some of the ideas that came up.

"I think this kind of format is an effective way of engaging people in the community and allowing everyone to have a voice and everyone deserves to have a voice at the table," says Jeremy Derue.

GRPD plans on unveiling a new policy on handling youth soon.
