Police, community relations measures approved by Grand Rapids City Commission

Last year, the City Commission pledged to commit $1-million each year from 2018 to 2022 to improve community and police relationships.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Police in Grand Rapids are trying to improve their relations with the community and Tuesday night, the City Commission approved measures to help them do just that.

Six of seven proposals were approved by the commission, including one that will allow a review of staffing at the police department. However, the commission did not approve hiring six community policing specialists.

Last year, the City Commission pledged to commit $1-million each year from 2018 to 2022 to improve community and police relationships.
