Driver arraigned after crash that killed 2 motorcyclists in Ottawa County

Bruce Edward Ross was arraigned in 58th District Court in Hudsonville and is being heold on a $50,000 bond.

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Two people are dead after a drunk driving crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV near Coopersville on Sunday, Aug. 5.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of 40th Avenue and Cleveland Street.

Larry Hein, 72, and Joyce Hein, 67, both of Marne, were on the motorcycle when the the crash happened. They were thrown off and were treated for injuries on the scene by emergency responders before being taken to the hospital. Both died of their injuries.

The driver of the SUV had minor injuries. He has been identified as 63-year-old Bruce Edward Ross and has been charged with:

  • Two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death
  • Two counts driving while license suspended causing death
  • Operating while intoxicated - third offense
  • Operating without insurance
  • One count of unlawful use of registration
  • One count of a forging a licensed document

Ross was arraigned in 58th District Court in Hudsonville and is being heold on a $50,000 bond.

No date has been set for a preliminary exam.
