Demolition of Glendale School in Muskegon Heights starts Monday

The former blighted Muskegon Heights school will be turned into attainable housing.

Demolition at a former blighted Muskegon Heights school is set to start Monday. 

The Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority has partnered with the City of Muskegon Heights to bring down the school and make way for new housing in the community.

Demolition work will be performed by Melching Inc. and will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Glendale School is located at 3001 Jefferson St.

According to officials, the new development would include "attainable" options. This project has the potential to attract first-time home buyers, young families and those who for one reason or another left the city of Muskegon Heights in recent years. 

The is first phase of the overall plan, the second and third phases will call for residential projects at former Lindbergh School and former Dr. Martin Luther King School.
