St. Stephen Catholic Church to close for major renovation

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Parishioners at St. Stephen Catholic Church will celebrated their last Mass in the existing church this weekend.

Soon after, the parish will begin construction on a $2.5 million renovation and reconstruction of the church and school entrance.

Quick facts regarding the renovation:

  • Church renovation and construction: $2.5M
  • Revitalized and refreshed sanctuary, infused with Catholic symbolism, that welcomes prayerful worship
  • Comfortable new space for community gathering and celebration
  • New organ to enhance worship
  • New heating, cooling, restrooms, electrical

Construction is expected to last into the winter and the plan is for parishioners to be back in the renovated church in time for Christmas.

During construction, Mass will be celebrated in the school gym.

The final Mass in the existing church will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on June 10 with a ceremony to follow.
