GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Grand Haven Tribune) - Beginning July 26, the Grand Haven Tribune will enter into a partnership with the U.S. Postal Service to carry out the daily delivery of the newspaper.

Tribune Publisher Kevin Hook said the decision was made primarily because of the increasing difficulty in finding new people to deliver the paper.

“Over the years, it’s become harder and harder to recruit and retain reliable carriers,” Hook said. “This was something that had to be done in order to provide our valued customers the service they deserve.

“You will now receive your same-day, local newspaper with your regular mail,” he added. “You will still receive Wednesday’s Tribune on Wednesday.”

Many small community newspapers throughout Michigan — including Big Rapids, Manistee, Cadillac, Greenville and Petoskey — are delivered using the Postal Service.

Hook expressed regret over having to sever ties with many of the carriers who have delivered the Tribune over the years.

“It’s unfortunate for our long-term, reliable carriers, but in the best interest of our customers, we felt we had to make this decision,” he said. “We still have quality carriers who have maintained their routes with impeccable service. Unfortunately, when we have turnover, we cannot find enough replacements to guarantee delivery of the Tribune every day. The time and resources necessary to manage the carrier force had become overwhelming, and it’s necessary for us to make the investments in areas that will allow us to grow and create a better product for our subscribers.”

Working with the Postal Service will guarantee more reliable delivery of the Tribune on a daily basis.

“We are very excited about our new partnership with the Grand Haven Tribune,” said Katie Cole, postmaster at the Grand Haven branch. “We are committed to providing excellent same-day delivery of the Tribune to the subscribers along with their daily mail.”
