It's just training! Coast Guard, local agencies conduct pollution response on Lake Michigan

If you live in Grand Haven, don't be alarmed when you see first responders near Lake Michigan today.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Grand Haven residents are being warned not to be alarmed if they see numerous first responders and law enforcement officers near Lake Michigan today.

The Coast Guard and several local agencies are set to conduct a pollution response training exercise in Grand Haven, near the Harbor Island Boat Launch around 2:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard is partnering with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and other tribal, state, and local partners to align response strategies, objectives and priorities during complex maritime incidents.

This exercise is part of a yearly effort called the Preparedness for Response Exercise Program and is designed to meet exercise requirements set forth in the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.

If any emergencies should happen during the training, call 911.
