Pole vaulters flock to Grand Haven for beach vaulting

The beach is the back drop to this unique pole vaulting competition.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Track and Field athletes are in Grand Haven on Friday and Saturday for the Grand Haven Beach Vault event.

Located directly on Grand Haven's city beach, the pole vaulters compete in age-based divisions, ranging from 14 and under to post-college athletes.

The event has been held on Grand Haven's beach since 2002. The Grand Haven Tribune reported in 2017 that Dave Emeott and Kevin Patterson head up the event, which used to be held in Rockford.

The competition starts on Friday, July 13 at 10 a.m. and goes until Saturday, July 14 at 5 p.m. Live results can be seen online. Spectators are invited to watch the beach vaulting which is located at 1223 S Harbor Dr.
