Re-installation of iconic catwalk begins in Grand Haven

The goal is to have it fully reassembled in time for the city's Coast Guard Festival.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — On Thursday workers started staging the steel structure that makes up the Grand Haven South Pier catwalk.

The iconic catwalk that has been missing from the Grand Haven south pier for three years is expected to return later this summer, city leaders say, and the major push to reinstall the structure will begin next week.

The main structure of the catwalk is made up of 59 individual steel pieces called bents, right now three of those have been moved on site.

The goal is to have it  fully reassembled in time for the city's Coast Guard Festival.
