Grand Rapids businesses, student leaders participate in Mayor's 100 Job Fair

Student's who complete a Grand Rapids leadership program got a chance to participate in the Mayor's 100 Job Fair Tuesday morning.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For these students, it's going to pay to be a leader.

Students who participated in Grand Rapids' Leadership and Employment, Achievement and Direction (LEAD) training got a chance to meet with business leaders in the area to discuss future employment options.

Local businesses and city departments held on-the-spot interviews for the LEAD participants on Tuesday morning at Grand Rapids City Hall. The job fair, known as the Mayor's 100 Job Fair, features 100 businesses that partnered with the city to provide jobs for youth.

Those who are a part of the city's LEAD program completed 80 hours of civic engagement, leadership and employment training that included things like resume and cover letter writing workshops, gerrymandering, interviewing for jobs, dressing for success, customer service, stress management, financial literacy and community service -- among many others things. They were also able to tour some of the 100 businesses who took part in the job fair.
