11-year-old boy raises money, spends New Year's Eve feeding homeless

Jacinto Reyes raised enough money to feed four Michigan shelters.

Hundreds of people at a Grand Rapids homeless shelter enjoyed a hot meal Monday night thanks to an 11-year-old boy.

Jacinto Reyes wanted to help after he saw homeless people being ignored.

"I was thinking like I could help them. We got money to spend, so do other people, so they could help feed them too," said Reyes.

So Jacinto started asking for donations at his school.

"We put an envelope right in the teachers lounge and all of the teachers donated," said Reyes.

In Grand Rapids, he provided meals at Mel Trotter and Degage Ministries. Jacinto says he wanted to give the needy a boost as they head into 2019.

"I just wanted to make sure people can start a new year with hope that they could save a bit more money and have hope for the new year," said Reyes.
