Military leader, businessman and journalist honored at Grand Rapids Public Museum

The exhibit is called Ralph W. Hauenstein: A Life of Leadership.

A new exhibit featuring a local philanthropist opens this weekend at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

The exhibit is called Ralph W. Hauenstein: A Life of Leadership. Hauenstein had a long career in the military serving during World War II. He also worked in journalism as a reporter and later editor of the Grand Rapids Herald.

After the war he returned to Grand Rapids and became an entrepreneur in international trade and food equipment manufacturing, designing equipment to make Goldfish Crackers. His success in business allowed for substantial philanthropic contributions in Grand Rapids.

The new exhibit opens on the second floor of the museum this Saturday, July 21 and it will run through the start of next year.
