Bikers in Grand Rapids will pedal all the way to the lakeshore in an effort to raise money and research for skin cancer treatment.
The 4th Annual MSU Gran Fondo takes off on Saturday, June 25.
A Gran Fondo, Italian for "big ride," is a long distance, non-competitive group ride. Individuals, families or teams of all skill levels can ride along the scenic 12, 25, 40 or 80-mile routes from downtown Grand Rapids to the lakeshore.
There will be superfood stops along the route, catered by Gilmore, and a post-ride Finish Line Festival with gourmet food, craft brews and live music at The B.O.B. The event supports MSU College of Human Medicine's skin cancer awareness, prevention and research.
New this year, cycling legend Bob Roll will ride the MSU Gran Fondo. Roll is one of America's most well-known ex-professional cyclists who rode on both the Motorola and 7-Eleven team in the 1980's.
He has been a regular commentator on several networks for international cycling events.
Registration for the ride is $80 and it includes: a t-shirt, finisher medallion, food and drinks at the Finish Line Festival, timing results and mechanical support along the route.
Online registration is closed, but last chance registration will be held at packet pickup on Friday, June 24, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Downtown Courtyard Marriott. There is no day-of registration.
