Two injured in Sunday drive-by shooting in Grand Rapids, church also struck by bullet

The car the victims were in was hit about 10 times.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - On Sunday, a 16-year-old and a 23-year-old were sitting in a car near the corner of Logan Street and Charles Avenue when another car pulled up and shot at them around 4 p.m.

The spray of bullets put the two people in hospital, but police say they are in stable condition.

The car the victims were in was hit about 10 times. Additionally, bullets hit three vehicles in the area and one bullet struck Messiah Missionary Baptist church, which is on the corner of Logan Street and Henry Avenue.

The church was holding a service at the time of the shooting, but investigators do not have reason to believe it was a target. The churchgoers were unaware that the brick building had been struck by gunfire while they were inside. When the service finished, those at the church were escorted out an alternate exit so they wouldn't disrupt the evidence.

Shell casings were found along Logan Street from Charles Avenue to Henry Avenue.

Grand Rapids Police said it appears the victims did not know the shooter. Law enforcement says there is not a description of the suspect at this time.
