Urban Family Ministries in Southeast Grand Rapids opened its doors for dozens of community members Monday, Nov. 22.
They held a community meal a few days before Thanksgiving.
The free dinner was provided by Ellnora's Kitchen, a restaurant across the street from the church.
Elijah Libbett, the owner of Ellnora's Kitchen, says it is important to give back to the community.
"A lot of kids don't have a thanksgiving meal," he said. "When I was growing up, it was hard on us and to be able to sit down and have a hot meal, it's nice.
"Even though it seems normal -- everybody can't do it. So, just giving back in anyway I can is what I like to do."
Organizers are planning to host a similar dinner around Christmas.
