West Side creative agency hosts block party, offers free photos to community

Carbon Stories hosts the party out of their building on Bridge Street.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Carbon Stories held their second annual Block Party on Saturday afternoon. The photography, videography and graphic design company held the party in the parking lot and backyard of their West Side business.

In addition to music, a bounce house, food and games, the company also offered free photos to families and individuals in the community on the West Side of Grand Rapids.

Carbon Stories says that this event is their way of giving back to the community that they live and work in. The creative agency was originally started in 2015, and they moved to their location on the West Side in early 2017.

"We want to provide value," said Erik Lauchiè the Creative Director and founder of Carbon Stories. "We want to be able to say this is what we can do for everyone. Our free photos was a way that we could do that."

Carbon Stories sets up a backdrop, takes the photos and sends them to people on the spot.

"I think it's important for businesses to do this type of thing, so that they are benefiting people around them," said Lauchiè. "It's important also to add to what the West Side is. There's a lot of diversity, a lot of different companies, different people."

The free photos are the root of the block party, but there was also food, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a community mural. The Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids, the UICA and other local business also attended the block party.
