If you ever thought of living in a castle, you will get the chance next year.
A West Michigan developer is building an apartment complex in Grandville called the "Grand Castle".
"It's unique in its design. No one has ever done it. I have never seen anything like this in the world", says Roger Lucas, co-owner of Land and Co. and sole owner of Grand Castle LLC.
Lucas says he’s always wanted to build an authentic castle. He's modeling after the Neuschwantstein castle in Germany. "It's an all concrete building with concrete siding and steel roof. It's an extremely strong structure."
The castle apartments are being built just off of I-196, on 28th street. "It's kind of the entrance to Grand Rapids. If you’re on the Ford Freeway, you're going to see this."
The castle will be 15 stories high and will have 400 apartments. Options range from a one bedroom to a 3 story penthouse in the castle tower. "The other thing is it’s on a lake, which is a big amenity for people with apartments. 20 acres of lake, they can kayak, fish, and swim in it."
The apartments will feature a resort style swimming pool, picnic area, and dog park. It will also have 750 covered parking spaces.
Construction on the project started in April and will likely be completed by June of next year.
"I'm going to try to make this the nicest apartment complex we can do", says Lucas.
"The apartments will range in price from $915 for a one bedroom to up to $3,000 for a 3 bedroom penthouse in the tower.
