Grandville brewery cutting down on straw usage

There is a national environmental moment to make plastic straw usage a thing of the past and Osgood Brewing is the latest to jump on board.

GRANDVILLE, Mich -- Late Tuesday, April 24 Osgood Brewing announced they won't automatically give you straws with water, pop and iced tea.

You can still request to get a straw. They'll still have them on site, but Osgood's owners want to cut down on the amount of them that are used.

Reaction to the brewery's announcement on Facebook was mostly positive.

Plastic straws have come under fire both locally and nationally over the past few years by environmental advocates and groups.

Last year we told you about efforts to reduce plastic straw usage at schools like Whitehall Middle in Muskegon County.

Earlier this year, California lawmakers proposed a plan that would make it illegal for restaurants to automatically provide plastic straws. Some leaders in Great Britain want to ban straws altogether.
