Man falls asleep at the wheel, causes crash in Port Sheldon Township

Two people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Saturday. It happened at around 5:35 p.m. on Lakeshore Avenue at Butternut Drive.

PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich - Two people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Saturday. It happened at around 5:35 p.m. on Lakeshore Avenue at Butternut Drive.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, 44 year-old Matthew Winters of Holland, fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line, crashing into a car driven by 21 year-old Abigail Bowman from Grand Rapids.

Both were taken to the hospital. At last check, Winters was listed in stable condition. Bowman was listed in good condition.
