A teen driver has died at a Grand Rapids hospital, succumbing to injuries sustained in a crash with a train.

The teen, identified as 17-year-old Samantha Lubbers, was pulling out of a driveway on Chicago Drive near 64th Avenue when the train crashed into her car, according to authorities at the scene.

Rescuers were sent around 2:40 p.m. Monday, June 12.

An Aero Med helicopter responded to take her to the Grand Rapids hospital moments after the crash.

Crews say the train was pulling 33 cars at 35 mph. No one on the train was hurt.

Lubbers' school issued this statement:

From Covenant Christian High School,

We are thankful to God for time that Sammy Lubbers had at Covenant Christian. Her positive attitude and Godly spirit will be missed by all of our students and staff. We will miss her smiling face and her dedicated approach to her work here at school. We express our Christian sympathies to the Lubbers family and we rejoice with them in the realization of God's promise to bring each of his children to their heavenly home in His time.
