Kennedy has said they took marijuana and about $25.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Joeviair Kennedy, the Western Michigan University basketball player who was cleared of murder but convicted for armed robbery, has been sentenced to 17.5 to 40 years in prison.

In June, Kennedy was acquitted for the shooting death of 19-year-old Jacob Jones who was killed near the campus on Dec. 8, 2016.

Kennedy's co-defendant Jordan Waire of Muskegon was convicted for felony murder, armed robbery and weapons charges. Prosecutors said it was Waire who shot Jones. Kennedy has said they took marijuana and about $25.

Waire was sentenced to life in prison.

Kennedy also got a two year sentence for a felony firearm conviction, which will be served consecutively to the armed robbery conviction.
