Dennis Scott Kent, 54, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

Kent, a Kalamazoo resident, pled guilty on Oct. 23. Law enforcement started investigating Kent when his landlord discovered the child porn while evicting the 54-year-old from an apartment.

Police then found a "significant collection" of child porn while searching Kent's computer. Police also learned that Kent had a prior conviction for third degree criminal sexual conduct. That conviction involved conduct that spanned years and involved a victim who was a minor.

Kent was released from prison in 2003 for that conviction, but he violated parole in 2004 for another predatory offense.

In addition to the prison term, Kent will also have a 10-year term of supervised release, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. If anyone is concerned about possible child exploitation, they should contact local law enforcement.
