KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Around 1:45 p.m. Friday a semi truck hit a car that was re-entering U.S. 131 near D Avenue after making a stop along the shoulder.

The truck broadsided the Chevrolet Malibu, then the semi driver lost control of the truck causing it to roll over. Michigan State Police says that the semi-truck driver was texting at the time of the crash and was given a ticket for doing so.

The truck driver is from Fremont and was transported to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Malibu received treatment for minor injuries at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

In the wake of the crash, Michigan State Police is reminding drivers to exercise caution while driving over Memorial Day weekend and to never text and drive.
