FRUITPORT — The 2018 Fruitport Old Fashioned Days kicked off Wednesday night in Pomona Park.

Old Fashioned Days is a six-day event organized and hosted by the Fruitport Lions Club, in partnership with Fruitport Township and the Fruitport school district. It has a carnival midway, an ox roast and a petting zoo each night until Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day parade will start at 2 p.m. from Fruitport Middle School.

Families and children on Wednesday night experienced carnival rides such as bumper cars and the Twist-a-Whirl, while also enjoying classic carnival foods like corn dogs and elephant ears.

Buddy Hepworth was at the park Wednesday with his niece and nephew, Anderson and Ally Vickers. Hepworth said Old Fashioned Days brought back memories from his childhood, and he liked to bring the kids so they could make their own memories. Hepworth, a Fruitport native, said he has attended the Old Fashioned Days for his “whole life.”

Wednesday’s schedule featured a “Fruitport Has Talent” show, in which four people participated. Tonight’s schedule features a “Jazz Night” to showcase jazz bands from local high schools in the area.
